How is this possible?
The Beacon generates the majority of the electricity it needs during the daytime from the onsite Solar PV panels and the roof mounted vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs). The use in the daytime will require little or no energy from the national grid. Any surplus electricity will be exported to the National Grid, for which a very small amount of income is generated.
The electricity use in the evening will come from the VAWTs when they are generating electricity from low wind speeds of 12meters per second. Any additional electricity required will come from the national grid.
The Heating and Cooling of apartments will come from a wet heating system, using hot water that is heated using a ground source heat pump [GSHP]. The heat from the earth is used to heat water that is pumped into the system and around each apartment.
