Electric car and bike share schemes

Imagine the feeling of driving a brand new Tesla Model 3, or BMW i3. Taking it out for an evening, or for a weekend drive.

Residents will have exclusive access to the UK’s first Electric Car Club for residents of The Beacon.  Aimed to encourage the use of electric car use and car clubs over ownership, the Beacon will have a pool of 5 Electric Cars available for residents to book and use on an hourly, half day or full day basis.

Residents will be able to enjoy leisurely drives around the Chilterns using the cars or book for a longer trip away.

The electric car scheme will include a Tesla Model 3 all electric car with self-drive technology along with a Nissan Leaf and BMW i3 as alternatives.  With ranges from 100 miles up to 300miles, the question for residents to consider is whether they really need to own a car? 

The government’s own statistics show that for every car share vehicle on the roads, it can take 26 cars off the road.  Hence, with a minimum of 5 electric cars available, The Beacon hopes to make the switch to car hire/share easier for residents.

The AA.com estimate the cost of the average car in the UK is approx. £7k per annum when considering all costs for fuel, wear, tear & depreciation.  This would be a significant saving one could make when presented with an alternative that is available as and when required for a small fraction of the cost.

Advanced technology underground automated parking - by Skyline Automated Parking.

Parking just got a whole lot easier and cooler - With over 300 underground spaces, there is enough space for all residents to park safely, securely underground so no worries about parking your car on a street miles away from where you live. No worrying about someone scratching or denting your car while it’s parked outside. No worrying about walking into an underground car park that’s dark and feels unsafe.

Why the Skyline Automated Parking System? All you have to do is park at the entrance to the car park as instructed. Leave your car and watch the car move into the automated car park quickly and safely and securely. Cars are parked in under 1 minute and when you need to get your car, it can be retrieved from the system in under 1 minute.

  • The system generates 80% less CO2 than a conventional underground car park.
  • The system is better for the atmosphere as there is considerably less air pollution due to car emissions as the cars do not drive underground - so there is no idling.
  • The system is safer than parking in your driveway or road as it is very secure as no one is allowed to enter into the underground car park. So it will help reduce your car insurance by 20% or more.

Daily manned concierge service from early morning to late evening

Imagine the peace of mind you have knowing the Concierge who is on duty at front desk is there to make your life just that little bit easier.

Secure RFID (radio-frequency identification) entry systems.

The additional peace of mind to know if you prefer not to carry keys or have a habit of leaving them in the flat, you can access the gym and roof gardens using just your RFID card. This means no one can gain entry to The Beacon out of hours without being let in at reception. Visitors have to be allowed access by residents using the video entry phones. Residents need to come down to reception to meet guests and take them up to their apartment.

Green balconies at each floor level and a magnificent central arboretum are designed to remove toxins from the air that we all breathe in around us.  In addition, the plants are designed carefully for to improve air quality and oxygen levels to aid wellbeing of residents.

Function room/cinema

The function room serves a dual purpose, using a retractable seating system, the spacious room can quickly be converted to a cinema with comfortable seating for up to 100 people to view showings.  The management will schedule movies to be shown daily late afternoons and/or early evenings with matinees on weekends when the function room has not been hired in advance for birthdays, bar mitzvahs etc.

Details of events being held in the function room, cinema showings, and various updates for residents will show on information screens in the reception area near concierge.

Energy costs are a thing of the past, with on-site energy generation there will be no energy bills to pay, for life. 

Water bills will also be lower, through 100% rainwater harvesting which is recycled for greywater consumption. 

 

How is this possible?

The Beacon generates the majority of the electricity it needs during the daytime from the onsite Solar PV panels and the roof mounted vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs).  The use in the daytime will require little or no energy from the national grid.  Any surplus electricity will be exported to the National Grid, for which a very small amount of income is generated.

The electricity use in the evening will come from the VAWTs when they are generating electricity from low wind speeds of 12meters per second. Any additional electricity required will come from the national grid.

The Heating and Cooling of apartments will come from a wet heating system, using hot water that is heated using a ground source heat pump [GSHP].  The heat from the earth is used to heat water that is pumped into the system and around each apartment.
